Before you apply for an Indian e-Visa, it is important to know exactly what is required so your application is approved without delays. The core requirements are straightforward: a passport valid for at least six months, a recent passport-size photograph, and a few supporting documents that depend on the type of visa you are applying for. This guide explains the documents you need, who is eligible to apply, and which passport holders are not permitted to use the online e-Visa system.

Documents required for the Indian visa

  • Passport must have validity of at least six months from the date of arrival in India, with at least two blank pages for the entry and exit stamps.
  • A scanned copy of the passport bio page (the page showing your photo and personal details), uploaded in PDF format during the application.
  • A copy of a letter from the hospital, required for the medical e-Visa, uploaded in PDF format.
  • A copy of a business card or company letter, required for the business e-Visa, uploaded in PDF format.
  • One recent (taken within the last 6 months) passport-size photograph (2×2 inches) on a plain white background — face front, eyes open, no spectacles, and no shadows on the face or background — uploaded in JPG format.
  • A copy of your previous Indian visa, if you have visited India before, uploaded in PDF format.
  • Applicants who are endorsed on a parent's or spouse's passport cannot apply and must hold an individual passport.
